Another thread from earlier today has me thinking about kick-ass new music, across all genres and languages, made in just the last year or two. I'm gonna drop breadcrumbs here to keep that other thread focused on janglepunk stuffs.

Let's start with Buzzard's "The Bombings Will Continue Until There's Peace b/w Cinderella's Midnight Surprise," because I just listened to this fantastic pair of songs again and Buzzard is as good a place to start as any.

Let's continue with a hip hop record that goes on my Best of 2026 list:

VOICE OF THE REVOLUTION by The Neighborhood Kids

So good ❤️‍🔥

Good morning, Fedi friends!

Start the day off with a kick and Gogol Bordello's We Mean It, Man!

Gogol Bordello is hardly a new act, but they're still making new music to rock our socks; so put on your best purple outfit, turn up the volume, and jump around with the gypsy punks 💜

Good morning, Fedi friends!

Today's recommendation is for anyone who appreciates a unique voice in electro-folk-pop:

Caribenya

Lido Pimienta is, perhaps, the most easily recognizable voice in contemporary Latinx electronic music. Her records are always beautiful, and I'm always pleased to hear her featured in other artists' music. (Listen to her on records by artists like Shad, The Halluci Nation, El Búho, Chancha Vía Circuito, Atropolis, Muerdo, Earthtones, Boogát, Run The Jewels, and many more.)

Timmy Sells His Soul published a fun glitch pop album early this year.

TSHS, keeping music weird since 2012*

*Name and Form was published in 2012, but TSHS has been making delightfully strange art since we were schoolmates.

Good morning, Fedi friends!

While I'm thinking of unique voices, I have to share Fabrizio's RECOVERY EP.

Holy shit, this man has a voice as deep and soulful as the Earth, and his songs about alcoholism and recovery are shattering 💔😭

Good morning, Fedi friends!

Looking for more Americana excellence after yesterday's share? I've got you, fam:

In Misery We Trust by Gage Saylor and the Creekside Boys is full to bursting with heart and soul. I would venture into civilization to see these fellas perform live.

Good morning, Fedi friends!

I've shared Cry Baby a few times now, but it needs to go in this thread because it's another one of my favorite listens of 2026. A blast from start to finish, fun music about heavy shit. Vince Staples is a master of his craft.

If you like hip hop and haven't heard this one yet, make time.

So.

Fucking.

Good.

Good morning, Fedi friends!

I've said elsewhere that I try to live my life in the spirit of Modest Mouse's "The Sun Hasn't Left," and that's true—but I can't put down a good cynical tune, and WASTELAND COUNTRY is made of good cynical tunes. I've listened to WASTELAND COUNTRY so many times since Moon Walker published it in May that I got a badge 😅

Moon Walker's discography is filled with lyrics I would spit at my parents if I were a teen still trapped in their home.

Teen angst never left these veins, and Moon Walker gets the blood pumping.

This next one was a surprise find:

7Y by A_Phan & FRNRKE

I had no idea what to expect going into it, and I was delighted by the trip hop vibes. Easily among my favorite "I wasn't even looking for this" discoveries this year 😁

Fresh off the press earlier this month, Bestiaria by Karen y los Remedios is a danceable rock album that fuses cumbia with trip hop and shoegaze elements to bring English-language listeners something both familiar and uniquely Mexican. Fantastic tunes, highly recommended 👍👍

Good morning, Fedi friends!

Tinariwen is still at it, making awesome guitar-driven folk rock from the desert of northern Africa. Their 2026 LP, Hoggar includes a song featuring José González, one of my indie folk rock favorites. Well worth a listen if you enjoy bluesy folk rock 👍👍

Good morning, Fedi friends!

This year held some surprises for me in the hardcore / metalcore scene with new records from old acts dropping in out of the blue (or so it seemed to me). Up first:

Converge dropped not one but two new records this year, Love Is Not Enough and Hum of Hurt. Both records kick ass 🤘

While I'm thinking of fantastic new(ish) metal records, I want to recommend The Blue Nowhere from Between the Buried and Me.

BTBAM is another old favorite I've been listening to for years, but The Blue Nowhere sees the band going in a fantastically strange new direction. This record is what it might sound like if Mr. Bungle and The Dillinger Escape Plan fused together, and I love the weirdness 😁

Hoping for more of this sort of sound from BTBAM in the years to come 🤘

Looking for a Korean pop rock record that's loads of fun? Have a listen to Gongbu by Balming Tiger. If you like any of the songs on the record, you'll probably also enjoy the band's official music videos on YouTube, so check those out, too.

In the decade+ that I've been listening to The Notwist, the German indie rockers have never let me down with new music. This year's new record, News from Planet Zombie, is no exception to that rule. I love this album ❤️
