  • Lather: Saponificio Varesino Tundra Artica
  • Postshave: Naissance 702 Witch Hazel

Everytime I use a soap by Saponificio Varesino, I am blown away by the quality of their soap base, and also, by their great scents. This one is a very nice oud-based mix, ideal for colder weather. It really is a pity that US-customs block letters, it would have been a great BVWSC event for March.

Have a good day!

This is my first shave with AoA. It smells good off the puck and amazing as the lather builds and throughout the shave. I had a good experience with the CFG base, but I usually do.

Theme: Non-Citrus Fruit Day - Apples of Aetherwood features apple, prominently. It has not a bit of citrus in it. Not even Neroli.

... opens with a vibrant burst of apple and bergamot, reminiscent of a sunlit orchard. As the fragrance unfolds, the heart reveals an intriguing blend of spices, geranium, and juniper berries, evoking the warmth and depth of a mystical forest. The base notes of cedarwood, vetiver, frankincense, amber, and tonka provide a grounding, earthy finish

Special Challenge: Color coordination - so color schemes are my kryptonite. I did some research. I think this works. If you want to make fun of me, rest assured I've already made fun of myself. I started by looking at a scheme based on the tetradic color theory with the Stirling Green as base. That kind of went sideways. This looks like an Autumn pallette to me. I don't know. (Title pic is my entry)

October 10th, 2026: Fruit

  • Brush: Zenith - B03-A26 (B2) 26mm Boar
  • Razor: Gillette Red Tip Super Speed
  • Blade: Personna P74 (14)
  • Lather: Meißner Tremonia - Woody Almond - Soap
  • Post Shave: Chatillon Lux - Delor de Treget - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Stirling Soap Co. - Friends to the End - Balm

The scent notes on Meisner Tremonia - Woody Almond are Bitter Almond and Texas Cedar. This is according to a picture of the jar found here

Almond is the prominent note, and cedar is in the background. No citrus here! It's an interesting scent, and I like it the most of all the almond scents I've used before.

Theme justification: Almonds, as we know them, are the fruit of the Almond species of trees. They are not classified as nuts, but are classified as fruit. Specifically, they are called "drupes", which is the technical term for "stone fruit".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almond

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drupe

Fragrantica puts almond in the "Fruits, Vegetables, and Nuts" category. As we already know it's not a nut, and it's obviously not a vegetable, so that makes it a fruit.

Fragrantica also goes on to say that "Bitter almond oil is produced not only from almonds, but cherries, apricots, peaches, and prunes". All fruits.

Daily Challenge: skipped it today

October 10th, 2026: Non-Citrus Fruit Day

  • Brush: Rad Dinosaur Creations "Nebulagance" - TurnNShave Quartermoon 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: GEM Micromatic Flying Wing
  • Blade: Accuforge GEM Microcoat (11)
  • Lather: Catie's Bubbles - DFTR - Soap
  • Post Shave: Macduff's Soap Company - Chinook Sky - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Oleo & Co. - Facial Toner - Toner
  • Fragrance: Paul Sebastian - PS Cologne

Theme justification - DFTR is a fig scent. According to Bubble Daddy it’s boozy green fig over tobacco, woods, and musk, with no citrus anywhere in the notes. Fig is a fruit that is also not citrus.

Relevant Post Shave or Frag - Chinook Sky has earth, moss, cedar, and patchouli. DFTR’s fig is green but not sweet, so the splash picks up the green and the patchouli and carries them forward.

Daily challenge - See my SOTD picture for the daily challenge. My wife helped with the photo, she's too good to me.

$FOF - To my nose DFTR is green fig with tobacco and woods underneath. It’s an odd scent and I like it for that. There's a rich fig with booze underneath. A truly beautiful scent that I think is sorely underrated.

Chinook Sky brings a nice earthy/woodiness with some tonka to round it off. It keeps the green from the soap and drops the fig. Macduff’s describes it as "a momentary spring in the midst of winter", which seems about right to me.

PS I’ve only had for a few months. Sage and lavender up top, sandalwood, patchouli, myrrh, and vanilla underneath. It takes the patchouli from the shave and softens everything out. Very nice for an old drugstore cologne.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

This was my first use of Two Walters. This is a distinctive scent and related to Waits only in that there's a sense of place and a sense of soul that comes across. The cedar, smoke, caramel, with a rosemary top note are unexpected and very interesting.
