There are old people who are considerate and kind, and the story here is more about two grown ass people still behaving like mischievous little kids - at least that's how I read it and it's endearing, there's no need to be imagining bad things about any of them.

I remember the first time I went to my wife’s big family gathering when we were still dating, her grandmother was cooking a big elaborate meal and her uncle snuck into the kitchen and grabbed some food before it was ready, got caught, then proceeded to get chased around the house with a slipper.
