Meet Sirena, a female Grey seal pup who was found at Wicklow Harbour, Co. Wicklow, on the 12th of September 2026 by Gerard K.

She was found alone swimming in the harbour, very close to the pier and a big boat. Sirena was estimated to be around 7-14 days old and was found orphaned and underweight, with her lanugo still present. This lanugo coat protects pups from low temperatures, but it is not waterproof. For this reason, it was very unusual and dangerous for Sirena to be in the deep water for so long, without her mother with her.

Sirena was strong and brave enough to haul out on a nearby beach, where we were finally able to safely lift and transport her to our centre in Courtown, Co. Wexford.

Sirena has a bit of a feisty side, and certainly isn't afraid to let us know what she thinks. We're hopeful that with plenty of care, rest and fish, she'll continue to gain strength and make great progress over the coming weeks.

Those helpers definitely followed the siren's call but hopefully with a happy ending for Sirena.
