No App Store or way to access it except CarPlay APIs, which is basically just streaming from a phone? Very odd. I was excited for this and I’m a little disappointed. I have a full Apple Home using HA as a bridge for incompatible devices. My bathroom HomePod died and my kitchen one is failing, so I feel like I’m the target market for this. But if I can’t put my own recipe, video or home apps on it then what’s the point?

Let me rebroadcast what is playing on my Apple TV using some AirPlay style implementation, with the extra space below used to follow a recipe app and a visual timer, and this would be a day one purchase. But as it stands it’s LESS useful than a Kitchen iPad, it needed to be more useful as its purpose built.

Still, the hardware is nice and the price is OK. Considering the Apple TV is now $429CAD, I’m shocked this didn’t come in at like $600CAD. Here’s hoping lukewarm response causes them to rapidly add software features and a true developer API. Otherwise it’s dead in the water.

They would still be able to expand it in the future but, you'll have to buy the version 2 to get those new features.

It's Apple Watch, but for your table! And they sell a wall mounted version that does not comes with a wall mount, for the same price of the table version. Courage!
