There are numerous reports and investigations by independent human rights organizations and international media outlets denouncing this incident and others like it in the Gaza Strip.

The facts: According to testimonies and on-the-ground findings gathered by the organization, on February 29, 2024, a 62-year-old Palestinian man named Jamal Hamdi Hassan Ashour was arrested in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood (Gaza City). After being interrogated, he was bound with plastic zip ties and subsequently run over by an Israeli armored military vehicle while still alive.

Evidence: Reports from journalists at the scene and the remains of the body indicated that the victim had been placed on the asphalt (to ensure a full-force impact) and still had rigid plastic restraints fastened around their limbs.

Euro-Med Monitor and the Palestinian human rights organization Al-Haq have pointed out that this incident was not an isolated event, but rather part of a documented pattern of using tanks and military bulldozers to crush infrastructure, shelters, and people.

other incidents of the same nature that have been formally documented:

December 16, 2023. Kamal Adwan Hospital, Beit Lahia. Israeli bulldozers and tanks ran over the tents of displaced people in the hospital courtyard, burying and crushing several wounded individuals and civilians alive, as well as unearthing and destroying makeshift graves.

January 23, 2024. Torres Taiba, Khan Younis. An Israeli tank deliberately drove over a trailer that was serving as a makeshift shelter for the Ghannam family while they slept. The attack resulted in the instant death of the father and the eldest daughter, leaving the other family members injured.

February 20, 2024. Khan Younis coast. During a surprise incursion into the coastal area, a military tank ran over a tent occupied by a displaced family, who managed to evacuate just seconds before being crushed.

June 27, 2024. Shuja'iyya neighborhood, Gaza City. Israeli troops stormed the Al-Jamal family home. After wounding family members with explosives and gunfire, they held them in the street to use as human shields near the tanks. Subsequently, a tank ran over the 65-year-old mother, Safiya Hassan Musa Al-Jamal, killing her instantly in front of her children.

December 10, 2025. Jabalia Camp. A military bulldozer ran over 16-year-old Zaher Nasser Shamia---who was already wounded---crushing him in half after systematically preventing medical services from aiding him.

United Nations (UN) rapporteurs and International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutors alike have received requests from these civil society organizations to include these cases in investigations into war crimes, extrajudicial executions, and flagrant violations of international humanitarian law in the Gaza Strip.

The situation on the ground remains critical, and reports of violations continue to be received. Independent human rights organizations and United Nations agencies report that the destructive use of heavy armored vehicles and heavy military machinery has continued throughout the conflict.

New patterns of military violations.

Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has continued to report that the crushing of civilians and the wounded by tanks and military bulldozers is not an isolated incident, but rather a recurring tactic. The organization has continued to gather testimonies from survivors and medical personnel in areas of active incursions within the Gaza Strip.

Systematic destruction and impact on the population.

For its part, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has publicly denounced the fact that the continued use of Israeli bulldozers and heavy machinery keeps razing and leveling inhabited areas in Gaza, without regard for trapped civilians, the wounded, or the dead.

Attacks in exclusion zones.

The army maintains military control over most of the territory through demarcated zones (militarized lines). Any civilian who accidentally moves into or approaches these shifting perimeters is considered a target; open fire and incursions by armored vehicles occur regularly.

Heavy machinery operations.

The demolition of residential infrastructure and makeshift shelters through the continuous use of heavy excavators and explosives continues to destroy the minimum living conditions for displaced families.

Obstruction of accountability.

Human rights organizations continue to face extreme difficulties in accessing areas controlled by tanks, slowing the confirmation of the total number of fatalities buried or crushed beneath rubble and asphalt.

Despite pressure from the United Nations and various calls from the international community for a complete cessation of hostilities and respect for international humanitarian law, local and international organizations warn that dehumanization and the risk of such lethal incidents remain a daily reality for the population of Gaza.
