Intel has experimented with "SIMD-first" style programming in the ISPC compiler, a somewhat obscure language that has many similarities to OpenCL or CUDA.

The main difference: ISPC compiles-and-runs on AVX and AVX512 instruction sets, available on most x86 or AMD64 computers built after the year 2012.

For those learning the SIMD + parallel programming style, a tool like ISPC could be very helpful since it works across a wide variety of targets (including ARM's Neon instructions!!) that's more popular to use than even CUDA.
