Despite being so old, this paper by Hillis and Steele serves as the basis of many CUDA papers that exist today.

There is a simple writing style that was in the 1980s, back before there were too many GPU programmers or SIMD programmers. It feels like this ancient paper is a better starting point for "how to think" like a parallel / SIMD programmer, than a lot of recent works. This is still one of my favorite papers to read, and reread, and come back to over the years.
