I poured hundreds of hours into E:D back in the day (barely pre-rovers, so ~'15 w/ Horizons?), and made a killing in my Mur-der-Lance* hunting griefers & mining mats for the upcoming capital ships with a minor faction of super-OGs. I even splurged on an A-1 HOTAS and a Vive that I modded my chair & setup for.

I cannot, in good conscience, return to the game. I paid months of my life to that thankless thing, and that's good enough for me. It was a lot of fun, but I know myself too well to get coaxed into it again. 😅🤞🏼

*(Vanta Black skin, low-heat loadout, PA in the belly HH for shenanigans, etc.)

i piloted a vulture, had one gun for shields and one for hull, and a whole lot of energy problems keeping them fed as the gun ports on that monster were bigger then the class normally allows. i had to sacrifice life support for engagements it it was very heated. i had left before planets were a thing.

Oh, dayum! A Vulture? You are oldschool. 🤘🏼

I picked up the Fer-de-lance on a whim, after reading a post about its yaw slip being initially hated before cmdrs discovered the lethal loophole: Huge hardpoint tuned to your reticle and the ability to boost off, kiting a mark as you 180-no-scope-instakill with the Plasma Accelerator*. They can't not plow right into oblivion. 🤣

Don't fly without a rebuy, suckas! 🤘🏼

Man, there was this one griefer (Snoopy or something?) that everyone knew about, even the corpos. The official solution was still being looked into when of few of the more, say mercenaries for Good sorta player factions decided to target him specifically. The siege was non-stop and players camped out to map his login patterns.

We bled his in-game funds until he had to blitz through mining (smuggling'd add the cops to our side, I guess?) just to afford a rebuy and rearm. By then though, word had spread, and everyone at least took a shot on sight. IIRC, he flamed out in redderp and went silent.

Ah, the wild west days of E:D. 🤓

*highest damage in the game, but probably nerfed ruthlessly by now.

Oh noes. After like 450 hours of ED I realized it was not good to play more. I was neck deep in HOTAS research and steadily buffing up to the point where finally I outran and dodged a player trying to gun me down on my way to a station with a full load. The adrenalin of landing and just looking at the poor bastard as i narrowly escaped....

Anyway... I just got my steam frame and ED was already calling me.... but I realized I'd have to get a stick rig to make it feel right. Now I see this. sigh
