Usually authoritarians target those on the margins before expanding their repression. That Trump and Vance are going after a sitting congresswoman, Ilhan Omar, with politically motivated deportation means they have bigger ambitions.

A member of her staff is serving a federal sentence in prison for a reason. There have been over 50 convictions in connection with this fraud of the Minnesota welfare system. This is all publicly available information.
