Oh, wow, not now I'm curious what it will look like. Fingers crossed but I doubt it'll beat first season.
Edit: type not

I really tried to get into true detective but just couldn't. I can see it's a well made show it's just not my cup of tea

I misread that as "beat off first season" and was like "hur hur hur"

To be fair season one is a rather high standard to meet.

Yes.

Mahershala Ali did Season 3 and Jodie Foster did Season 4.

Both were credible, but neither was as good as Season One.

After Mr Cage's "spider noir", I remembered that he can fucking act. He was excellent.

I really enjoyed s4 with Jodie and the UFC champ: JF always is a treat and the new actor was spot-on. Reeeeally looking forward to s5 with these guys.

Apparently so, maybe I need to watch season 3 and skip 4 and wait for season 5?
Not big Jodi fan or s2

I’d watch an episode where they have to travel through time(?) to pleasure McConaughey and Harrelson.

There are lots of shows considered excellent that are not my cup of tea. There are lots of shows I consider excellent that other people don't like.

Thinking about what you like and don't like in other shows can help to find new shows you like. Obviously, I mean looking beyond the genre, as that's generally obvious. Looking at whether it is character driven or story driven. Whether it's an ensemble or has a central character. What themes it deals with etc. Then you can find similar in that genre that are highly regarded and start to branch out to find similar in other genres.

What shows do you like? My tops are West-Wing, buffy, scrubs, line of duty, Rome and the wire. Also loved sopranos, lost, game of thrones, battlestar Galactica and firetly. I definitely skew towards sci fi and fantasy but it's the ensemble character shows I live the most.

Have you tried Fargo? It's quite similar in some ways, but takes a more comedic angle. The two shows are often compared.

The thing with Nicolas Cage is you’ll always get a performance, it’ll usually be memorable and sometimes it’ll be great.

I can't imagine them ever beating the first season. Third and fourth were good though.

I'd agree. Both were good seasons. Season 2 sucked. Season 1 was peak golden age of TV.

I think that if they'd put out Season 2 with a completely different name it would have been well received.

Season 2 had nothing to do with Season 1, but we all thought it would.

It was like following a hard hitting game of rugby with a tennis match.

It is an anthology series. I don't know if people expected it to have something to do with S1. Really, anything after S1 wasn't going to do well, S1 was one of the best shows ever. However, I do guess that anthologies were still pretty rare back then.
