These were sold by Kenner starting in 1977. You would get Milky to drink from a trough of water by pumping its tail. I've never worked on a farm, but I doubt that is the method used for real cows. After that, you could milk Milky into a tiny bucket. It may seem udderly ridiculous, but it was sold for a while before Kenner mooved on. If the toy was a marketing failure, we can forgive them. To err is human, but to forgive is bovine.

The 1977 TV commercial is a thing to behold.

Milky in the flesh, as it were:

Milky

If that doesn't satisfy your farm themed toy itch, see also Gobbles the Crazy Eating Goat.

What made the milk look like milk, was there some other ingredient?

A lot of kids might have tried to drink the "milk", so hopefully it was safe to drink...

My guess is that that's just marketing using real milk in it. It would be weird if the kid was holding up a glass of water.

There were tablets inside which presumably dissolved in the water to make it look like milk. The unit came apart so you could add more tablets, and also clean the inside.

I grew up on a dairy farm, so I may be biased, but I would have loved this as a kid! I want to ask why we never had one in the house, but we literally had "milking a cow" at home. Still, though! How cute!

I'm mostly curious how well that tail-pump thing held up, and whether Sears could fix it for you if it came off, since they were the largest re-tailer at the time.

I believe Kenner would have replaced it, as the manufacturer of the toy. You’d call or write Kenner, send them the broken part, and they’d return a new part.

The warranty is actually on that “We Really Do Care” card. It probably looks something like this (after some quick searching)

This is from KennerCollector.com here.

Was “squeeze” also an intentional pun? If so you’re really milking it.
