anyone familiar with seed bombing? i love growing things, especially when they support pollinators or feed the birds so i'm intrigued by the idea, but i'm wondering if there's a zine or something for tips on how to do it effectively.

I don't have a recipe, though there is a wikihow. I just wanted to stop by and remind you that you should never, ever throw your seed bombs over a fence into private property that is reserved for future construction as a way of beautifying areas that very obviously have no caretaker, because it is private property and not an eyesore you have to walk past every day.

Find native plants in your area. Meadow flowers are probably a good place to look for cheap sources of seeds.

Mix the seeds with something that you can form into a ball. Garden soil might work well but it depends how much clay is in your soil. If it is too crumbly you could try adding clay or just use clay on its own.

Once formed into balls, yeet them to deploy! Optionally you may want to let them dry out a bit first. Could throw them, or a staff sling could be fun. I suspect it would help to make and launch them shortly before heavy rain so they get a good start with moist soil.

Trespassing isn't a criminal offense where I live. If you leave when asked by the land owner the worst they can really do is try and charge for damages which they have to prove. Of course you don't have to tell them who you are either and if you are leaving when asked the police will laugh at them.

There are a few exceptions like military bases and railways, but otherwise its a civil mater and the police don't care unless someone is refusing to leave when you have asked them to.

If it grows into a bush that will actually be a source of awesome mint tea.

Mint is an accomplished weed. The cop is going to have to pull up their lawn at some point. Maybe, it might not take.

FYI, children make an amazing force multiplier for seed bombing. Not only do they love making them, adults are a LOT more forgiving if they deploy them in inappropriate places.

Also, if you present it correctly a lot of groups like the scouts would jump on helping. It's a fun activity for the kids, as well as great for the local environment. The kids involved can also be STRONGLY self motivated to make and deploy them in large numbers. They have several badges that this could be fitted towards getting.

Came here to say similar! Seed bombs are awesome! Provided one isn't scattering invasive, and/or species that aren't balanced by the local wildlife. 🖖🏼

FWIW to those with the interest: hemp is generally a good neighbor, and looks like a tomato or pepper plant for most of its cycle, leading up to fruiting. Just sayin'. 💁🏼‍♂️

Sounds like a nice place. Much of this country is land one'll get shot for straying onto. 🤷🏼‍♂️

!nolawns@slrpnk.net agrees with it being native. Speaking of, is there a plant native or native planting community? I think beehaw has one but I also think they defederated with a lot of people.

My old local police station used to be directly alongside a train track. Always thought it would be hilarious to seed bomb that large grassy area with weed.
