So mentions of VPNs on their websites still have to be policed? |

Based on the numbers on the sign in the picture not matching each other, I strongly suspect that it's AI-generated rather than being actually commissioned or designed in-house. |

Could be hand drawn numbers? |

Why would they match? The article is about VPNs and Utah's moronic attempt at policing them. A VPN routes your traffic through a different IP... I mean that's kinda the point... |

Legally in the US it currently doesn't matter as long as a human prompted it to do its work, and no other entity comes forward with any potential copyright claims, which would be evaluated subjectively anyway. |

And neither of which are technically possible with certainty in the first place. There is no such thing as "blocking VPNs" unless you narrowly define "VPN" as "a well-known provider of VPN services that publishes a list of IPs we can block." But there's absolutely nothing anyone can do to stop me from making a "VPN" from my house to Timmy's house in the next state. |

I would expect an organization like the EFF to operate at a moral baseline above the legal minimum in terms of not replacing illustrators with AI. |

Your morals are not the same as everyone else's, it's inherently subjective, and trying to play the altruism olympics is a zero-sum game; there are ways to make everyone lose, every time. Example: The devices we are all using right now are supported by forced child labor. Checkmate. Who are we to say what other people should be concerned about? Nobody put us in charge. Some believe that trying to impose one's moral standards on others is a sign of arrogance and dismissive of individual autonomy. Usually if something like this were so universally accepted by everyone, it would just be a law already. Did you have the same moral expectations of the inventors and/or users of the printing press? Think of those poor scribe monks. What about the cotton gin? Those poor handweavers. And the steam engine? Computers? Cars? Airplanes? Computers? Calculators? Where does it end and why? Instead, why not let EFF concentrate on what they do best? The last thing they need to worry about is making their website pretty; I don't fault them for phoning it in. They're legal experts, not graphic artists. |
