We have no future in the current trajectory of the world, act accordingly.

Inequality results in higher asset prices. They commodified housing and allowed massive inequality. Now housing is expensive.

This happens because if you have more money than you can spend you start looking for things to buy. Houses and land, for instance. The neoliberal hope is that hoarded wealth will trickle down through investments. But there really isn’t enough money-making enterprise for the billions available, so rich folks start buying up assets, which become super expensive.

To be clear, I’m not saying there’s more money than can be wisely invested. I’m saying the money is concentrated (often into the hands of the least discerning) and not efficiently distributed for utilization. If normal folks had extra cash, they might start a small business, but billionaires aren’t looking to open a family owned restaurant.

Italy is protesting in every major city about living cost among the things. Meanwhile, in Florence, another super-luxury hotel opens in what once was a residential building. It costs 2500€ a night.

We don't need to change the current trajectory, we need to burn the world as it is and make something new.

I wonder when it will shift from protesting to dragging billionaires into the streets

There's way too many fucking luxury hotels. And most seem to stay empty.

I managed to score a suite at a VERY discounted price (90% off), for £100 a night, a few months ago when I went to Budapest, in such a hotel. During my one week stay, I saw a total of 5 guests/groups/families... out of the 100+ available rooms. Mind you, this was around the time things should've been ramping up to prime season...

The neoliberal hope is that hoarded wealth will trickle down through investments.

It's not their hope, it's just one of the excuses invented by some Think Tank (probably in America and funded by somebody like the Koch brothers) to swindle the rest of people into thinking that the Neoliberal political ideology delivers something positive for more than just a small fraction of people.

If there is one thing I learned seeing the 2008 Crash from a front row position in the Finance Industry, is that every single Neoliberal pseudo-Economic saying (especially the stuff about Meritocracy) is complete total bollocks: when things got hard every single Neoliberal government out there chose to save and even increase the wealth of rich, using the law-making and executive powers of the state to imposed austerity for the rest to pay for it, and to manipulate their own currencies to boost asset values whilst in real terms income from work fell.

What they most definitelly did not do in any way form or shape was let the "constructive destruction of the Free Market" take its course.

Neoliberalism is what it does, not what it says on the tin.
