Maybe it's a franchise, making this guy technically a small business owner? Not familiar with zing btw

Could be I guess. Hard to know cause they'd probably never make it public.

Though there are particular people who would refer to this as a "small business owner" and not just labeling it "looters".

Could people take out their anger on the people causing rather than their peers? What kind of piece of shit do you need to be to not just ruin your peers life but also a whole movement by giving it a bad rep...

I find it amusing that there's a lot of sympathetic comments on this post putting a face on the consequences of these riots but on the other post showing a police car in a crowd all the comments were proud of the rioters.

I'm all for showing numbers and voicing our concerns but we're just punching sideways when there's a riot. I find it sad that people here on Lemmy side with the rioters

Then they will wonder why stores never open back up and others will wonder why nothing changed. If you want to protest, sit on your ass at home and don't spend money or go to work for a week.

I don't like this idea because you end up blocking emergency services and people in emergency situations. Essentially you would be killing someone indirectly.

I side with the rioters because rioting creates a capital cost that can not be ignored. Peaceful protests can be ignored and are ignored. Smash windows and burn buildings. After the riot capital has to respond. It's juvenile to suggest political change can happen with none of the advocates harmed. That's a fantasy. Revolutions are messy--that is the reality. I'd rather advocate and be in a messy revolution than peacefully protest as capital subjugates labour into a poverty state. Assassinate your landlord and every real-estate agent.

maybe address the issues that caused the original problem I don't want to see another gun ban because I know they don't work. I'd rather see the root causes of violence addressed. If you address poverty, unemployment, homelessness, and mental illness with robust social programs and treat them as the systemic public health issues that they are, bans are unnecessary because crime will be obsolete...

Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Your first few sentences are correct. Mental health needs to be top priority. Bullying inschools needs to be handled differently. Your never going to stop gun violence 100% but if you can stop 95% of it, you take that as a win.

Anarchism in lemmy posts is some utopia while praxis looks a lil bit different

Pray tell how this has anything to do with self-determined decentralized communal organizations, or did you just ask ChatGPT “what is anarchism” before this post

Thanks for sharing your conservative reactionary take…

Ok. Then this is what happens during the glorious revolution. After the revolution, contrary to the last X times, we will have:

self-determined decentralized communal organizations

These aren’t protestors, they are rioters.

What makes a group "rioters" vs. protestors who are prepared to escalate appropriately in reaction to intolerable conditions?

Yes, peaceful protests are easy to ignore. But surely there is a balance between "don't break anything" and "destroy a working class business".

Maybe destroy public property (the property of those that need to make the change) or the property of the ultra rich (the property of those that made the change necessary).

It's like arguing that a kid who gets bullied is justified in responding violently, but instead of lashing out at a staff member or the bully, they're beating up band kids

You can arrange to leave emergency vehicles through.

So you're the type that thinks dancing at No Kings is an effective protest?

I don't have a Google account but I guess 5 star reviews would help him https://maps.app.goo.gl/iXTUt5xPKGSnbPy59

Wait, are they smol business? Maybe like a franchise then?

It seems they have 300 locations & their parent company is GameStop.

What a piece of shit. This is not speaking truth to power, this is playing right into their hands and is hurting the legitimate protestor's cause.

Burn the banks, smash the Starbucks, loot the Dior Store. But leave the small shops in peace.

If dissent is not heard, it must be felt.

I forget the exact details but in Milwaukee the cops shot a black kid and in response the community.... burned down a gas station and hair salon in their own neighborhood.

There was a clip of a woman being interviewed begging people to stop destroying their own neighborhood. Something like "go to the suburbs and burn their shit down!! We need our weaves!"

Idk. A lot of unfocused rage and anger will take itself out on the first thing it can find.

I'm the type that doesn't consider burning down the city I live in and destroying public property is the path to progress. France's economy is already strained and guess who'll have to pay to rebuild everything? Hint: It's not the elites

It might be cathartic to burn down your house because you don't like your landlord but it doesn't solve anything

In practice anarchism sets up social institutions that serve as a quasi state apparatus without the centralized power structure, believe it or not often including activities close to “policing” .

Like all political ideologies it must function in a flawed reality operated by flawed humans. I have no doubt that the belief when taken to an extreme caricature is unrealistic.

Nonetheless it serves as a direction for political organizing towards an ideal, just as liberalism or facism.

Fine if it doesn’t suit your political ideal - for me it is helpful as a guidepoint to a just society.

Please don’t just sit here feeling superior with reductive takes that are frankly biased by the powers that maintain the status quo. Unless of course your political program is “perfect” if so - enlighten me.

No there is not. Peaceful protests are not easy to ignore they are ignored. That's historical fact. To protest is to intimidate and produce fear of overwhelming violence. A peaceful protest is nonsensical and such a thing has become not a protest but a farce or a form of entertainment--no wonder the Americans love such things!

Protest-leaders will be directing violence to where they think it will be most effective, but these are chaotic environments and self-harm is always a result. The goal is to minimize that, not eliminate it, because it can not be done. It is collateral.
