Shiver me timbers! So it be that Burn The Ships be an Ole Spice fer pirates, savvy? This here soap was named fer ol' Hérnan Córtes, a gentleman of fortune (though some called 'm Pirate o' th' Yucatan). He burned up all his ships when he went aground t' chase the treasures o' the Aztecs. Y' see 'twas t' keep his lily-livered mates from backin' down 'n sailin' away. spit Arr, I threw me 7 Doubloons in 'cause every pirate needs some booty an' some Ole Spice 'cause it's nice. This do be meetin' theme and challenge, as agreed. Hear now -- give me all yer points or y' do be walkin' the plank! Arrr. |

Theme justification: Nautical: relating to ships, sailing, or people who work on ships. Ever been on a ship? Like a nice old one with copper fixtures everywhere? Guess what -- that copper turns green. Green like the Statue of Liberty. That's what verdigris is. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated in 1886, and millions of immigrants who arrived in New York Harbor by ship (emphasis on ship) were greeted by her on their way into port at Ellis Island. If an immigrant arrived by air, they got no such greeting. Only if they came on a boat. How's that for nautical? If that's not enough justification for our anti-immigrant judges, how about this!... The first in the list of scent notes are Lime and Grapefruit, giving the soap a citrus forward profile, with everything else bringing up the rear to support it.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave. This was my first use of Chaing Mai, a scent that seeks to provide the experience of a country market in Thailand. I had a "wow" reaction to this one. The razor that I used was just honed on a new set of stones. I'm very happy with the way they perform. |

October 19th, 2026: Int'l Talk Like a Pirate Day... but in October
Theme justification - Limes & Bergamot is a citrus-forward soap. The combo would certainly help combat scurvy. Relevant Post Shave or Frag - Barrister and Mann Lime continues the citrus theme. Daily challenge - Again I barely had time to shave. No challenge for me today. $FOF - The soap and splash are pretty straightforward. A double dose of fresh lime, with a hint of lemony bergamot on top. Bergamote 22 is confusingly named. I get some citrus in the opening. Kind of a green lemon scent and a hint of dry grapefruit, but it quickly drops into vetiver, neroli, and petitgrain. Ultimately I'd call it a vetiver scent in citrus clothing. |
