For me the bigger problem is the plastic bottle attached to the cap.

This is misinformation in the sense that caps got attached in order to reduce the likelihood of the bottle cap entering the environment since it is easy to loose, in particular when dumped illegally.

At least AFAIK.

Also those are cold gas thrusters meaning they do take electric energy to power the compressors that refill them, not fossil fuels to burn them.

That being said super cars are a luxury for the medium rich.

Most of society's electricity IS from fossil fuels. It has to be charged somehow.

Also the caps were attached to keep the bottle from becoming two separate pieces to help store plastic waste in a more consolidated manner. Also less choking hazards for animals and children.

I believe they're making a point about media's efforts to blame consumers for global warming, while the 20 most emissive corporations singlehandedly released 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions in 2024.

A big thing in Europe now. It might be limited in some areas based on whether the plastic of top and bottle need to be separated for recycling.

I wish we could organize to ignore those idiotic product show-offs from billionaire's playgrounds. No talking, no commenting, no sharing, living as if it ever happened. This would make those products be abandoned by investors and fade into the nothingness they deserve, along with their ego and all the invested money.

One can dream...

Well, all you had to do was learn a foreign language (your fourth), have a job in technology, spend a year preparing, get rid of most of your possessions, abandon your family and friends, move over 10,000 KM, change hemispheres, then find a job before you run out of money, and finally, you too could have spent a year in freedom and then have it all collapse as a part of the pandemic and AI boom.

I'm not doing OK. BTW, 19th of November is international men's day. Maybe if people want the chuds to STFU on march 8th, reach out to people next month.

When tethered caps are done well, mostly seen on flat-caps for water bottles, they're actually very convenient. Just flip them over until they click in place and you don't have to worry about holding them or placing them somewhere. Flip them back to close the bottle.

Unfortunately that often is not the case and then they suck.

EU decision. All caps used in single use beverage containers (bottles etc). Around 100 billion bottles per year are used in the EU.

The goal is not reduce the carbon footprint, but to reduce litter (loose caps ending in the environment).

It is convenient if implemented well, and annoying if not.

It's awesome. I love having a few drops of liquid in the cap and the cap being in my face while drinking, the drops on my face now.

Also great for people with disabilities who can not hold things that good and caps sometimes snapping back can make a mess eg when pouring.

Yes, while it sounds exaggerated I've had it all happen sometime. So I tear them off.

Compressing air for absolutely useful and necessary entertainment purposes is always powered exclusively by carbon free energy now I guess...

Are you opposed to EVs in general for the same reason? Because very few places have zero carbon electricity.

The Roadster FV uses cold gas thrusters, IE compressed air. There's no carbon footprint apart from the energy used to run the compressor.

The direct connection escapes me, too.

It would be more reasonable to compare a measure, that actually helps to reduce trash and co2 footprint with that flying car. Plus: there is no reason to stop it, just because there is one very rich, annoying guy.

The effect of one toy project (look at me I build flying cars. Look at me!) isn't that big. Like Kanemann said, people are poor intuitive statisticians.

Fun fact, the EVs normally have a set of fuses which blow when rolled over. These had to be removed for the demo.

EDIT: someone else posted a photo of the demo car itself not even having the high voltage battery installed; in other terms it does not drive.

And probably a lot of energy used in designing it. Wtf is the point? There is no chance that is road legal. So.. What is it for?

The only real use case I can see for it is a film stunt car.

Sure you can blame the seal clubbing company for clubbing seals. But of you keep buying their seal skins, you surely are taking a good chunk of that responsibility too?

"Apart from" is doing a lot of heavy lifting for that carbon footprint, and I mean specially for the action itself, not development or parts. Compressed air is about as inefficient as it gets.

It's pretty clear the author here is misinformed and thought that those are rocket engines. Just like they were misinformed about why the caps are attached to the bottles.

Them creating this cartoon and posting it online produced CO² as well. Nothing survives that purity test.

Only problems I see are that the billionaires still draw breath.

People buy what they can afford. The seal clubbers also like to put "ethically harvested" stickers on their pelts.
