Don't care. Go and vote. It only matters once the polling closes. Then you can say whatever you want.

I won't go and vote.

In a place like Texas, it can feel pointless to go in vote if R's are going to sweep anyways. Good news like this can be used as a motivator to show people this election could be different.

People in line were talking about how busy it was (and how much busier it was yesterday). I asked someone who voted yesterday in a more suburb/rural area and they said there was practically no line there. So seems to match the optimism of this.

Using Texas is not the example you think it is. Imaging living in Missouri and reading this, don't be ridiculous.

Reports near me were lines wrapped around some voting centers while others were just a handful. It varies wildly even within 15 minutes of each other.

I don't shit how long the lines, vote like our lives depend on it. But I saw long ass line spent hours waiting to vote and Trump won my county by large margins.

I only saw old people today, it was sad.

I seemed to have taught the room of 20 60-70 y/o that sample ballot exist, and a few of them followed my lead and took one to leave and think about it.

So at least a few seemed to be actually thinking about what they're doing this time.

Problem is lot of young people are not aware they have a right to vote and there bosses must allow them time to vote. But when so few polling places and people having to work. Wonder how many want to vote, but won't because of their jobs?

Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you (assuming you’re a Texan capable of voting)

This “it doesn’t matter” line is complete defeatist bullshit. You can’t gerrymander state office. Hinojosa can oust governor hot wheels if we get out there. Talarico has a good shot of people vote.

Trump won because of the nearly 1/3 of voters who “it can feel pointless”.

I’m Texan, I’m progressive and you can be damn sure I’m voting.

Given I have already voted (as referenced when I mentioned being in the voting line), I'm not capable of voting anymore in this election. I did have a worker comment that my photo on my ID doesn't look like me despite being from less than 2 years ago, but they didn't make it a problem.

This “it doesn’t matter” line is complete defeatist bullshit.

Agreed. That's what I was saying in my comment. That this type of news should be used to insist on the importance rather than just dismissing it.

I'm trying to figure out why it wasn't obvious I voted. The only explanation that makes sense to me is "I read the first few words and stopped and decided to reply anyways." Pretty much every reply just repeated what I said but acts like I said the opposite. What's the alternative reading?

Then why did you start with "I won't go and vote"?

From the beginning, that frames your comment as someone who's anti-voting explaining why it's pointless, which we already have too much of around here.

So the rest of your comment sounded confusing, almost like you went to the polls to talk with people in line but not cast a vote yourself.

If you already voted, good. But try to be clearer when you're encouraging people to vote so they don't think you're saying the opposite.

As part of the joke that was followed up by implying I won't because I already did. People shouldn't wait if they're able to vote early. Anyways, apparently the punchline fell flat.

"Good news like this can be used as a motivator to show people this election could be different"? Not sure how this could possibly be anything other than encouraging people to vote.

Only reason I'd have done that is if they denied my vote.

Thanks for the explanation!

So far, only one person has referenced the fact that I was in the voting lines at all and that was after I made the comment that your comment is a reply to. I've had no reason to believe anyone else had even read more than half of what I said in the parent comment: most of the rest have been people saying vague things like "Sorry I didn’t realize you had a learning disability."

I assumed there was a typo somewhere and just couldn't discern what was actually meant. It really does sound like you were just hanging out at the lines to gawp. No harm in changing the first line to make it more clear.

Only sorta in NYC; they use it for primaries but not the general, IIRC. Better than nothing though, since it helped Mamdani get past the primary stage.

Mamdami + Lander cross-endorsement only happened because of RCV and it did wonders

Advocating disenfranchising people for the last 25+ years of their life isn't very "socialist" of you.

I generally oppose edits beyond minor typos (and you should leave an edit log if it was made more than a few seconds after posting). They make threads so much more confusing to follow, even if by simply clarifying the original confusing comment.

  1. A democracy doesn't take away people's rights when they reach a certain age.

  2. That's so cute that you think it's the person's age that matters. If you want take voting rights away from the kind of people who vote for fascists, it's the men (of all ages) that you need to stop.
