Massoud Ali-Mohammadi was an Iranian quantum field theorist and elementary-particle physicist. He was a professor at the University of Tehran. He was born on 24 August 1959 in Tehran. On 12 January 2010, he was assassinated in front of his home in Tehran while leaving for university. A motorbike rigged with explosives was parked near his car. It exploded by remote control. Two other people were injured. Majid Jamali Fashi was convicted of the killing. He was executed on 15 May 2012. He stated that he acted on instructions from Mossad and had been trained in Tel Aviv. Iran's Atomic Energy Agency officially stated that Ali-Mohammadi was not associated with Iran's nuclear program. His research was in quantum field theory, cosmology, and string theory. This is distinct from nuclear physics or nuclear weapons. Ali-Mohammadi was not politically active. He was described as an apolitical professor. But he had reformist tendencies. He signed a letter supporting opposition candidate Mir Hossein Moussavi before the 2009 election. He and his students took part in the 2009 election protests. He was married to Mansoureh Karami. He published 53 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He translated Modern Quantum Mechanics by J. J. Sakurai into Persian. He was a Council Member of the International Centre for Synchrotron-Light for Experimental Science Applications in the Middle East. He was buried on 14 January 2010. His funeral was hijacked by government loyalists who chanted anti-American and anti-Israeli slogans. The assassination was part of a covert war against Iran. US intelligence sources said Israel was running a secret war against Iran. Techniques included killing important persons in the Iranian atomic energy program. This pattern of assassinating scientists is well documented. |
