Rad! I had the same thing happen in covid times. I went for a slightly more powerful motor 😂 and thus began my coffee machine modification phase. I call it a 'sleeper' coffee machine because it looks like a cheap turd, but drives alright.

I like the idea of tuning coffee machines.
Hope you built in some rad lights, too :-D

Nice! How did you fix it? Solder and iron? Hammer and sickle? Crystal and ball?

Look into manual expresso machines. Like the gaggia classic. There's a whole cottage industry of after market accessories and modifications. Everything from modified springs to adjust brew pressure to full on pid controllers that graft into the unit and take control over the whole machine.

Someone really should release an IKEA product with a pamphlet that is essentially an Ouija board

It's kinda crazy to me that most coffee machines are made of plastic. Hot water rushing over plastic day over day seems like a bad idea

Delonghi.

I have two Magnificas. One is coming on 15 years old and I've repaired it a few times now. Loves to eat the o-rings.

Depends on the plastic.

The plastic on this pump looks fine, so either the motor itself failed or a rubber seal did - which is what I'd expect on a pump. The seals are the component that's most challenging to make last.

From the noise, I guess the integrated check-valve was damaged and stayed closed.

These pumps tend to last 10-30 years. Also no hot water goes through them in espresso machines.

Duct tape, WD40 and super glue. I can make an arc reactor in a cave with those items.

You have to buy the orange--red ones, I can't name the composition off the top of my head but they last the longest. Source: a decade of fixing espresso machines.

Yah, the Viton ones. I picked up a bunch from FluidSeal when I was grabbing other seal kits for cylinders, they perform better than the N90 and don't go brittle.

I think that's the one. 🙃 Too many options to remember. Replacing the plastic connectors with brass helps a lot as well.
