Now, the state of Israel – not AIPAC, to be clear – is running television ads in Iowa, a key Senate battleground state that may only be in play for Democrats thanks to the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.

In one TV ad, Israel specifically touts its willingness to wage war. “Israel confronts Iran and its network of proxies directly, addressing those dangers at their source,” the ad says, claiming that this helps “deter aggression” and “stop a wider conflict” – as if America isn’t currently at war with Iran.

“For Americans, the benefit is straightforward,” the ad claims

I think in any civilized country a foreign country directly electioneering for one political party would be illegal and sanction-worthy. Israeli arrogance continues to astound.

I'm in Iowa and yep, I've been getting mailers 1-2 times a week for the past month that are "vote republican because they stand up for Israel" type messaging. I don't have TV though so can't comment on commercials.

The trans panic stuff still outnumbers the pro-Israel messaging about 3:1. "So and so DemocRAT candidate voted to let MEN into GIRLS' bathrooms!!!! Therefore, vote for Trump's guy!"

While I agree this shit sucks, I think it is very naive to assume powerful countries don't routinely meddle in the elections of weaker peers with impunity.

The most recent elections in Columbia and Brazil are textbook examples of this. Nobody is going to punish the Bolsonaros now that they're in power.

So you are saying Israel is a powerful country and USA is its weaker peer? I'd agree with that.

Well that just isn't true. I for one knew, and many more; esp. in the fediverse.

I really don't like sweeping generalisations.

They said the same about Ceausescu and Gaddafi.

And a mere 40 years later...

Are you a time traveller? Why are you talking about tomorrow's election in the past tense?

The Parliament is already decided. I think three different Bolsonaros are currently in the Congress.
