In copyright lawsuits over AI training, Meta has spent weeks blaming staff for downloading torrents. The company has now been ordered to name executives who authorized decisions to pirate books from shadow libraries like Anna’s Archive and LibGen, TorrentFreak reported.

Also, from the article:

Authors and publishers have argued that Meta made a willful choice to induce infringement by downloading and illegally distributing their copyrighted works. Since torrenting depends on a swarm of users, Meta could not have quickly downloaded 80.6 terabytes of data from LibGen or 35.7 terabytes through Anna’s Archive if the company wasn’t also seeding, authors have argued. (Meta has argued that it relied on “mitigations” to prevent seeding.)

Getting paid for all that responsibility and then blaming everything on your underlings is a tough job. Only sociopaths can handle the stress.

I’ve never seen download speeds affected by not seeding.

That's not the point.

The point is, those who don't seed take and don't share back.

That's what profiteers and sociopaths do - or a Zuckerberg-owned company.

I'm sure Fuckerberg isn't losing a single second of sleep when he throws Facebook employees under the bus.

I understand your point, but I was addressing that the article is inaccurate (as far as I understand) with this:

Since torrenting depends on a swarm of users, Meta could not have quickly downloaded … data … if the company wasn’t also seeding…

Let's be clear here, if you work for Facebook, you will be judged socially. In addition to being thrown under the bus by the people that take credit for your work.

There are some swarms that do act like that, but I don't think it is universal. Perhaps they have evidence that Meta was connected to a swarm that shuns non-uploaders.
