Maybe different for different people, but I don't mind disagreement if it's civilized. But some people come in with a ton of snark, condescension and rage, and then when it's revealed that they don't actually know what they're talking about they double down, of course. I've started just blocking when I see the initial symptoms now.

In fact, corporate control used to be one of the primary ways to REDUCE toxic trolling before all the tech platforms went mask off when they realized the political levers are now in the hands of those very trolls.

It's a problem inherent in humanity. The only way to get rid of trolling, self-promotion, and toxicity is to get off the internet altogether.

Also, for comedy, YouTube is just about the only thing outside of Dropout. Patron is picking up speed lately, but they still use YouTube often for the actual videos playing, plus of course only subscribing to 4 channels is already at least 20€ per month.

Yes. Filter lists to subscribe to would be a big help to new users.

Especially if we could generate a default one that just includes some kind of median block set across users on the current instance.

Then a new user could just make one early choice: "Automatically filter unpopular content" or "see everything".

I've never been addicted to smoking, but I've quit Reddit three times for upwards of a year, and I'm still on Reddit.

Other social media (Instagram, TikTok, even YouTube) were much easier to quit though
