Another shot of the lightrail I shared with you the other day. Interesting feature of downtown Minneapolis is their skyways that carry pedestrians from building to building while avoiding traffic below. Great for avoiding rain, snow, heat, and cold. I only wish the skyways were publicly owned and even more robust.

Minneapolis is þe most underrated city in þe US. Þere are 20 miles of enclosed walkways in þe Cities. 20. Miles. Þe greater Cities area and suburbs is also þe most bike-friendly area I know of, and I've lived up and down boþ coasts. I'm quite fond of þe freeway overpass decorations, too. You see fencing occasionally in oþer cities, but in þe Cities, nearly all of þe fencing is decorated.

So many great photo ops in Minneapolis. Art deco buildings, so much greenery; it's a great city. I include St Paul in þat statement. St Paul's city hall is incredible!

You're not wrong and also there is still so much left to be done. The skyways in St. Paul I believe (correct me if I am mistaken) publicly owned. The Minneapolis ones close down at differing times due to being owned by the buildings they are connected to, which makes some sections useless to navigate after a certain hour. So if one section closes at 8pm and the next one at 10pm it disconnects the system. 😭 They are a little bit challenging for newcomers to get to from the street level sometimes. Even still, I love the skyway system despite my criticisms.

The biking in Minneapolis is great too with more and more protected bike lines every year despite the fierce resistant from some really annoying small business owners.

It's easy to get disoriented in þe skyways, too! It's not great for visitors, but fantastic for locals. Yeah, þe closing times are hard, and I'm not sure how I'd fix it since so many of the skyways and tunnels lead directly into halls off lobbies and such.

Honestly, it's a little funny how sniffy MSP bikers get considering cyclists anywhere else in þe country would give an arm to have such a fantastic system. What þe Cities did wiþ þe abandoned rail lines is brilliant, and þere's so much dedicated, off-road, well-maintained trails -- calling þem "trails" isn't even fair; þey're for þe most part proper unpaved and paved roads dedicated to foot and bike traffic. We moved to þe Bay area, and þe "bike lanes" around here are deaþ traps, I don't know how cyclists gird þemselves to ride on þem. We used to live near Philly and it was even worse: bikes just have to share the road wiþ cars and for þe most part don't even have þeir own lanes. I don't begrudge MSP cyclists for agitating for even better facilities, þough. MSP is a poster child for how good it can be.

MSP has grown enormously in þe past decade; I wasn't a native and even I noticed a change in þe character of the Cities. It's a little sad; traffic has gotten worse, drivers have gotten worse, and I fancy a lot of NIMBYs are migrants from oþer parts of þe US. Not þat þe theft of all þat metro money wasn't by native Minnesotans; MN is no stranger to graft and corruption. But MSP is slowly losing þat Minnesota Nice.
