Hi everyone, my name is Aphelia. I'm a 21yo russian-ukrainian trans refugee living in Argentina.

I fled Russia when I was 19 (in 2024) due to the total state HRT ban, the war, the criminalization and recognition of “LGBT” as a terrorist organization, military conscription, etc. I could've been drafted too (in Russia, u can't change ur legal documents, so if you are legally male, you're obligated to serve in the army), but fortunately I was lucky enough to flee Russia in the last month of my student status.

Originally I'm from the Donetsk region of Ukraine. My parents took me to Russia when I was 12, so yeah, I had no option but to escape Russia. I couldn't have returned to Ukraine either, because all of my family members who live there are in Russian-occupied territories.

Unfortunately, I'm about to face homelessness. I've tried to contact an organization that helps refugees, and they have some kind of agreement with a church that runs a shelter for homeless immigrants. However, yesterday they replied that they wouldn't be able to help me, supposedly because they have no space left in the shelter or can't accommodate me for some other reason.
All the organizations that used to have assistance programs for refugees have lost funding for these kinds of programs, because most of them depend on the United Nations, and the president who's currently in power is a far-right libertarian, so he's been shutting down all the social programs.

I'm also not eligible for any benefits or programs because I'm a refugee and still don't have a local ID, even though I've already been officially recognized as a refugee by the state's refugee commission. The document I've been given is called a “precaria.” It's basically a temporary document that serves as proof of my immigration status while my residency application is being processed by the migration office.

I lost my job 1.5 months ago, and I've been applying for jobs ever since, but to no avail. I do speak Spanish Castellano, obviously not like a local, but I can communicate, since I studied here at school and worked in the local job market.
Over the last 1.5 weeks, I've had around 8–10 job interviews. The thing is, it's really hard to find a job as a trans person here, and since I don't have a local plastic ID card, I was either rejected or ghosted by HR after mentioning that I don't have one in about half of those interviews.
I always boymode and never correct employers when they misgender me, nor do I emphasize that I'm trans. I simply don't mention it, just to increase my chances of getting a job. And even so, I still can't find one.

I also can't get HRT right now because of cuts and shortages in the public healthcare system. Here in Argentina, HRT is free, and they provide me with estradiol pills and testosterone suppressors, but the hospital I'm assigned to has been out of stock for a month. Obviously, I tried to get an appointment at another hospital. I contacted one, but they have no appointments available right now, and even if I manage to get one, the waiting time is around 1–1.5 months.

I live with my roommate in a dorm, and she's also a trans refugee, so she's pretty much in the same situation.
I have no contact with my family and haven't spoken to them since I left Russia because they disowned me when they found out I'm trans. They're anti-lgbt, orthodox christians, and my stepdad is from the Caucasus. So yeah, I have no option to ask help from my family, and I'm cooked.
