Like the title says. I find browsing piefed's frontpage which defaults to "hot" ranking is far greater than lemmy's "scaled" ranking. on scaled as it is now most post are very new and have no engagement and are of no quality, on the instance I am, the first page is full of bot mirrored content the with 0 engagement and that is of no general interest, it is almost the same as turning the ranking to "new" on piefed's homepage the content is still fresh, of general interest and already engaged with and bot posts don't filter through My proposition is to take piefed's "hot" ranking algorithm and use it for lemmy's "scaled" ranking. |

Have you tried Lemmy's hot ranking? The default ranking algorithm can be configured on your account preferences page, at least on the web UI. |

Yes, I find piefed's slightly better that lemmy's "hot" ranking, but it could also be because of how federation works, where instances don't have the same view on everything. my other question then is, what is the role of scaled if what it is supposed to achieve is achieved but "hot", may it be that there isn't enough content and engagement for it to work properly ? |

Iirc Scaled is similar to Hot except it pushes smaller communities closer to the top of the feed to prevent only the most active communities from ever showing up, which is what Hot often does. |

I don't like Lemmy's Hot sorting, it's not good at sorting comments either. It leans too heavily towards new posts/comments. If you're on Lemmy, the Active sort is a better choice. |

lemmy's active sorting is too stale for my taste. I fell that I have encountered most of the news already somewhere else if the posts are close to 24h old |

it does suck that there's nothing in the middle of New and Active, I feel like just adjusting the weighting of the Hot scoring method slightly would fix it I filed an issue about this a long time ago, but it got closed https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/4471 maybe if more people drop comments in there it might get reconsidered |

Lemmy devs are a teeny bit stubborn, and mentioning piefed might not help my case. that's why I asked here first, to know if this is only me or do other lemmings agree. |
