Volkswagen has yet to reveal details, but the €20,000 EV is expected to use the same 37 kWh LFP battery as the base ID. Polo and ID. Cross to keep costs down.

According to Spanish auto magazine Autofácil, Volkswagen could manufacture the €20,000 EV in Spain, although Volkswagen has yet to confirm a production site.

The Group currently produces the ID. Polo and Cupra Raval at its Martorell plant, while the ID. Cross and Skoda Epiq are manufactured at the Navarra plant, both in Spain.

Volkswagen’s new Electric Urban Car Family is off to a promising start, securing nearly 150,000 orders after series production began in June.

"Affordable" should start from 3-5K. 20K is crazy expensive.

For comparison: The most affordable EVs in Europe have price tags between €18,000 and €20,000, with Romanian car manufacturer Dacia being the most affordable.

Pretty sure it'd be impossible to make a car selling for that that passes all safety standards without crazy subsidization.

LFPs are now €85 per kWh, or €3145. These cars should cost MUCH less than ICE. China figured that out.

Dacia is just assembling Chinese cars in Slovenia.
