To me, the much larger problem is that people can make a comfortable living simply by filming themselves being assholes.

Yeah, that was my first reaction to this too. Look at me, I found a way to monetize acting like a little shit to random people who just assume you're a normal human being.

You know the type. They're the asses who believe any basic interaction is a game they have to exploit for their own gratification. The ones that once heard the term "social contract", and their reaction to this is finding all the loopholes in the agreement.

For some reason this reminds me of the sex scene in Being There where Chauncey Gardener watches the TV and mimicks the people kissing, enticing his lover while having no clue what is actually going on. But the TV didn't show anything beyond kissing, and there is this sudden, awkward break in the chemistry as he coldly stops being physical when the TV show stop showing the physical interaction.
