When I search "Ontario" I see Ontario@lemmy.ca with 231 MAU. kingston_ontario@lemmy.ca has 35 and Goderich@lemmy.ca about a dozen.

Yes that's the format for linking to other communities, which most apps will render nicely. You can also link to users with the @ symbol: @otter@lemmy.ca
