If you're writing a novel, I would actually avoid the stereotypical names, unless you want people to think the work is low-brow. Dare to defy expectations. People expect a Cletus. Give them something more normal but not too uptight... like Nolan or Patrick, maybe... and let the character define himself rather than the name.
