We adopted this 13 year old Chihuahua after years of abuse at the hands of his owner. We've had him for a couple of years now and he's now very happy, he loves to cuddle with me, he plays with the cat and even will let strangers pet him briefly.

He's adorable, but please get his claws trimmed if he'll tolerate it. They look uncomfortably long.

Good eye! We are doing that tomorrow. It really stresses him out so we try to go as long as possible between them. Thankfully we've found the least stressful way is to bundle him up and suspend him with his feet exposed, then give him treats and loves afterwards.

You are the best. Thank you so much for adopting a senior dog. You are both so lucky to have found one another. 🫶

That sounds like an ordeal. Stressing out older animals is stressful on the human too. Don't know if you've tried, but we used the dirty plate trick (smear something on a plate/spoon/shoulder/forehead and let them lick) to distract our doofus. It worked far better than force ever did for us.

Thanks! We've tried that a couple of times. The suspension works the best.

I’m so sad he was abused :(

But I’m so so so pleased he has a furever home where he’s super loved. Not the best start to life, but he’s definitely enjoying the latter part of his life <3

What’s his name?

Gustavus, but we call him Gus Gus (like the mouse from Cinderella)
