While my familiarity with Bayza’s work is primarily through Star Trek, his passing hurts immensely as an Asian and a fellow Filipino. He voiced many background characters in Lower Decks and Prodigy. Most notably he did an amazing impersonation of George Takei for “All the World’s a Stage” as Sool’U and Snell in “Fully Dilated”. Most notably overall Yu was known for his work voicing Looney Tunes characters, being hailed as the modern Bugs Bunny.

You can listen to his interview with Phil Yu for the podcast All the Asians on Star Trek from 2022.

Here’s the CBC News Obituary piece.

Bauza, a Canadian, was originally from Scarborough in the Greater Toronto Area.
