From Devin Pitts

My first Northern Saw-whet of the season showed up this morning not too far from my apartment in Eastern South Dakota. I don't think this one will stick around as it's still early in migration for them, but hopefully a few reliable ones set up shop for the season!

What a great shot. Love the composition and depth

Doesn't hurt that Saw Whets are some of the cutest little devils either! Saw Whets are some of my fav photo subjects as they have so much facial pattern variation between individuals that each photo actually looks like a different owl. I usually can't say that about most owl. Same will change their overall color shade with bigger climate or ecosystem changes, but each Saw Whet is as special as a snowflake or fingerprint!

I just noticed, now that I'm on my laptop instead of my phone, that it's got a tasty morsel in the second photo!
