From Brian G Weber

Yesterday, I saw one of the weirdest and coolest sea slugs I've ever seen and it was in New Hampshire. This is Elysia chlorotica, a slug that eats algae and steals its chloroplasts to use for photosynthesis. Yes, this slug is solar powered! I saw this species back in 2022 at the same site, but this time there were literally hundreds of them! So cool. Many more pictures to come.

Captured with my Olympus OM-1 + 60mm macro lens.

This reminds me of the Knights of Sidonia manga where humans living permanently in the space have been modified to make photosynthesis :)

Oh, that a tiny background detail, the manga is mostly about fighting monster and whether they are actually monsters or what, but it has some cool sci-fi takes on the permanently living in space topic too:)

I took a look at MAL and Youtube a bit, and I may have to check it out just to see because the reviews looked so polarized.

I see it's a mecha series, which I'm usually not into because I'm bad at visualizing fight scenes, but I have watched a few mecha anime. I see this did get an anime but was incomplete. And the manga people had a lot of critiques about the ending, implying it threw away tons of character development, sounding like the Game of Thrones ending, but other still talked like this series is amazing.

The Netflix S1 trailer didn't do too much for me other than make it seem like an Evangelion thing, but then I clicked on a video of a fight scene, and holy heck that monster looked so disturbing and insane, I shut it off because I didn't want spoilers. I think I'm going to have to at least check out a few episodes to see how I feel.

Yeah, the manga ends abruptly, sadly this is more usual than it should be in the manga industry, as soon as a series doesn't meet the popularity/sales they want they just self the series, sometimes as is the case here the author is given a few more issues to try and wrap up the story the best they can but normally doesn't work great as it is the case here. Some people say that this was the intended ending but I find hard hard to believe that.

The Netflix anime likewise is half finished in that it tackle an "finish" entire arc but let many things half way (the anime covers roughly 2/3 on the manga iirc). Either way I think is a very interesting series to watch even if only for the world building.. there's plenty of mecha stuff but I don't think is the main focus of the series. If you have access to it I'll recommend watch the first 2 episodes (or even the first one). If you're not hooked by then, then it won't get any better for you.

Yeah, I'm going to have to give this a look. Thanks!

It's always a shame when anyone doesn't get to finish their work. The manga industry seems pretty brutal. I've had things I followed where a few of the artists have gotten really sick or hospitalized trying to keep things going, or one day there just aren't any more chapters, and that's that.
