Are there any communities you're aware of which are suitable for software release announcements and which take a "no slopcode" stance? Recently, several communities to which software project release announcements are posted have been swamped by slopcoded submissions such that it drowns out the non-slop stuff. These posts are usually one-off, short-lived, largely incomplete projects seeking free labor to QA, complete, and make usable something generated almost entirely by Claude, often by someone who admits they don't know how to program themselves. These largely don't even bother to write the post content themselves, but also have AI generate it. A couple of posters repeatedly repost the same basic post, trying to get other people to pick up the skeleton and turn it into a real project. Thankfully, these are pretty easy to identify at the moment because they generally take the same form: "Hi I'm X, and (I'm the author of/I've been building) Y, (description of software). (Bullet list of features). (Caveat about incompleteness "80%!!"). (Appeal for testers/contributors/ideas)." I'm hoping to find a community which is not specifically focused on anti-AI topics, but on software that happens to be human-coded: where it's in the community rules, not the title. There are a metric ton of software-related communities across the fediverse; there are a lot of places for slopcoders to post their projects -- are there any software communities which have rules against slop postings? |

Same, I'm so tired of seeing slop on top of slop. Account are solely created for purpose of promoting it, eh. Codeberg has strong anti-llm code policy but that's about it. No community on lemmy ever checks if slop or not to my knowledge, unfortunately |

I think that AI has allowed non technical “developers” to make software without having even a sliver of the experience a traditional software dev has built over their career. At the same time, I know a lot of software developers working on industry. They are all using AI to accelerate themselves. So I think the real problem with your question is: “what is slopcode?” If it’s any code generated with AI at all, I don’t think you will ever see an active community developing and sharing that because doing everything by hand is a dying way of creating software. |

I might be out of the loop because I’m trigger happy on block functionality but my experience is very different. Slop is usually called out and even if it’s not explicitly forbidden in a given community, people will make it clear it’s not welcome. |

Some communities are actively discussing what to do about it. The problem is, how do you define slop? Define it too loosely and you ban even Linux. Some of the better ideas I've seen floated around is that restrictions on posting could be that the repository has to be older than 6 months and it has to have continued to receive updates. That rule would filter out most of the "look what I made" repositories which are then abandoned after they get bored and move on to something else. |

Yeah. That's a whole can of worms by itself.
It would indeed prevent the worst slop. I wonder if it isn't throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Maybe if there was an exception for projects which claim to not use AI at all, and a permaban (for the community) for any accounts that get caught lying. Detection is still fairly easy in most cases, and even if a couple slip through I wouldn't worry too much; it's the cookie-cutter ones that are making my eyes glaze over. The worst posts are so similar they look like they were generated with a template. In many cases, code-wise, you can look at the history for Claude commits. My objective isn't to punish AI users, its to cut down on the noise. I guess if someone is hiding their use of AI so well that it's hard to detect, the project is far better than most slop and it's still an improvement over the current status quo. |

This is true; usually someone will point out the slop. I think I'd just like to not have to have a channel with less noise. I prefer to read the post before looking at the comments, and relying on comments flips that. With no community rules, people can call it out but there's no facility for removing the posts. Do you block accounts that post slop? |

Until a community decides that it's going to disallow slop submissions, there's no reason for mods to check for slop. It's a dick move to remove a post for something that isn't against the rules. I think slop coders should have a place they can post their crap; I don't want to silence anyone, I just want a place with a higher signal-to-noise ratio, you know? Maybe there's a bunch of people who get really excited by another slop web-based encrypted chat project. |

I block accounts that post slop, yes, although it doesn’t happen that often. Usually they’re just spamming a dozen or so communities at the same time and are easily identifiable by the account age (my client adds an infant emoji to such accounts). It’s not like I have to do that much research on them - report, block and move on. I also block entirety of lemmy.world which boosts overall signal to noise ratio in the threadiverse. It’s not like I can read all of this anyway. |

Well i shared news on a fediderse software as Castodon. It was made with AI but the code was reviewed by some devs and i tought it could attract any devs interested. And later, i imagined once the team is big enough, they would remove the use of AI. In fact, the project was dead and this person wanted to continue it but they didn't have any programming skill. Later some devs joined them. Here i promote some fediverse software, so some people can give their time. :3 Another use case, deaf people heavily use AI for writing or communicating in their daily life. The last one, Mozilla also use AI to review their code and improve security. So to reply to your post, I'm against AI. But i also recognize that in some case it helped people. This community is about the fediverse and we have flair for AI software (vibe coding) that you can use to filter them. You can block some flair. Piefed also allow you to flag AI content or find bot. As for other community with those rules, i don't know. I think it depends on staff free time because we would have to check every content posted in our community with you. But, maybe you can create your own community where you filter yourself those software and apply those rules. As for myself, i do my best and try some middle ground. I weight the pros and cons |

You should be able to share your projects; and anyone who wants to use them should do so. Diversity is good. I'd just like a feed where it's filtered out. If I thought a tag would be both acceptable and enforceable, that'd work too. A community would still have to add a rule and maintainers would have to enforce it for it to be useful. I wanted to survey for existing communities before considering starting Yet Another community. Plus, moderation is a tiresome, thankless job, so I'd rather someone else be doing it. I low-key hate bossing people around. |

Man, blocking lemmy.world is blocking over half of the Lemmyverse. Plus, I can't, because !superbowl is there. |
