The Berlin Data Protection Authority has ruled that several major German political parties (SPD, Greens, Left, CDU) unlawfully used political microtargeting during the 2021 federal election. The authority found no legal basis, such as consent, for processing personal data to target users based on political interests. noyb filed the complaints over three years ago following revelations by ZDF Magazin Royale. The case against the AfD remains pending due to legal challenges regarding the authority's investigative powers.
