Between 1949 and 1956 Israeli security forces and civilian guards killed somewhere between 2,700 and 5,000 Arab infiltrators. This is estimate from historian Benny Morris. Their mines and booby-traps also killed people. Most of those killed were unarmed. Overwhelming majority had infiltrated for economic or social reasons. Morris notes this 'free-fire' policy led to a series of atrocities.

These kind of acts were not unusual. The Israeli army murdered hundreds of Egyptian war prisoners in both 1956 and 1967 wars.

In 1967 Israel expelled between 100,000 and 260,000 Palestinians from newly conquered West Bank. It also drove 80,000 Syrians from Golan Heights. When victims of these ethnic cleansings tried to sneak back to their homes, often unarmed, Israelis sometimes shot them on sight.

Amnesty International estimates that between 1967 and 2003 Israel destroyed more than 10,000 homes in West Bank and Gaza Strip.
