Theme: The Haunted Woods - Today, I picked the supercreamed triple-butter base with sandalwood and myrrh. I paired it with Lucky Tiger for a short burst of citrus and herbs then Prastara cologne, which also has sandalwood.

Top Notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Ozone, Rosemary, Spicy Notes, Heart Notes: Lavender, Orange Blossom, Rose, Sea Breeze, Base Note: Ambergris, Animal Notes, Moss, Resin, Sandal, Skin, White Musk

Daily Challenge: MOAR OVERLOAD - "as you're lathering ... spray or drip ..." So, I couldn't spray the frag and dripping Luck Tiger wouldn't have done much. So I DRIPPED my frag into the bloom water at the beginning of lathering. I figured the water would buffer the effects of alcohol. It'd be a shame to screw up the supercreamed triple-butter base. The effect? Meh. The Sudsy Soapery knows what they're doing with scents. A few drips of Prastara couldn't compete ... and I'm fighting the Fall crud, so my nose is only working about 12%.

  • Brush: 3D Printed - w/RDC DinoBoar 26mm Boar
  • Razor: Puma 76 - Solingen - 13/16 Half Hollow (7)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Pencil Pushers - Soap
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Petrichor - Aftershave

Very nice shave. I've gotten fluent at stropping with my non-dominant (left) hand, it seems! It started off being pretty difficult, but now I have the muscle memory down. I started doing it as to not irritate my right thumb which has sort of a long-term injury at this point.

Theme Justification: Pencil Pushers smells like a freshly sharpened wooden pencil. Super woody, probably the most woody scent of all time!

Sextidi 6 Brumaire an CCXXXV de la Révolution, jour de l'Héliotrope

  • Brush: Zenith 506U XS Horse 🐎
  • Razor: Dovo Bismarck (6/8th) (4)
  • Lather: Le Père Lucien Rose de Pushkar
  • Postshave: Naissance 702 Witch Hazel
  • Postshave: Floid The Genuine
  • Postshave: Nivea After Shave Balm

I really like the scent of Rose de Pushkar (which is really great), but I don't use it very often. This has a few reasons:

  • I purchased a marked down version, because the tub was not fully in spec. It opens with difficulty, which I resent. This isn't the fault of the producer (I knew [approximately] what I was getting into, but it is not worth it)
  • I find it hard to lather. The base is the same as Narcisse, which gives a luxurious lather with medium amount of effort. However, there is something in Rose de Pushkar that makes lathering harder
  • It gives me a slight tingle on the face. Hardly noticeable, but it is there, and my face is slightly red. Not the end of the world, but still.

Anyway, have a good night!

  • Post Shave: The Cajun Blade - Atchafalaya Aftersauce - Aftershave

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

This was a fun theme to meet using a soap from today's sponsor. The Atchafalaya river basin contains some deep, wild woods and this scent captures some of it with notes of cypress, oud, cedarwood, and palo santo. The top note of blackberry always catches me off guard, but I think it balances this fragrance well.

For the challenge, I did in fact put the EdP in the lather and that is captured in the video. Or, you can save yourself some time and boredom and just take my word for it. 🙂 The addition of the EdP definitely boosted the fragrance. It killed the lather a bit, but I overloaded the brush in anticipation. I'd say that MOAR Overload worked out well for me.

The razor I used today was sent to me for honing. What a beast this one is. I think it is the first Max Sprecher that I've used. It took a great Jnat edge, and was fun to shave with.

October 27th, 2026: The Haunted Woods

  • Brush: Chisel & Hound "Spice Lily" - TurnNShave Tuxedo 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Chiseled Face Titanium Legacy Razor
  • Blade: Kai (5)
  • Lather: The Cajun Blade - Dude of Oud - Soap
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Ubrique - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Oleo & Co. - Facial Toner - Toner
  • Fragrance: BYREDO - Animalique - EdP

Theme justification - Dude of Oud has cedar, "dark woods," sandalwood, and two kinds of oud. Lots of woods here.

Relevant Post Shave or Frag - Ubrique is rosewood up top and sandalwood in the base, with Spanish leather in between. Animalique leans heavily into suede, woods, and musk. Both woody on their own, and both pick up the leather-adjacent aspects of the soap.

Daily challenge - Dripped Ubrique into the brush before the first pass. The lather smelled entirely like Ubrique. The soap scent might as well not have been there. No change in performance.

Sprayed Animalique into the brush before the second pass. Still mostly Ubrique, with a bit of Animalique at the start that faded fast. No change in performance.

Nothing added before the third pass, and that’s when I could finally smell the soap. Dude of Oud with a hint of rosewood and leather still hanging around from the splash.

Verdict: I dunno, I guess that was cool. I much prefer having three distinct scents that play with each other through a progression.

$FOF - Dude of Oud smells like yogurt off the tub. I've said it before and I stand by it now. Lathered up it turns into a dry, smoky wood with the oud sitting underneath, which is great. I was getting more incense today than I've gotten from this soap in the past.

I'm a big fan of Ubrique. Rosewood and bergamot first, then leather, then a sultry sandalwood that hangs around for a while after the shave.

Animalique is leather again, but suede this time, soft where Ubrique is sharp and tanned. It doesn’t add wood so much as smooth over the wood that’s already there. In the end the whole thing settled into sandalwood, leather, a hint of oud, and not much else.
