Bad article. The one on the right is an even older iteration that people had fewer problem with. Last one before this change looked more like a gigachad:

This is awful. Did they just not want to build a customer character creator?

To save time and money I assume. Jun is a set character with specific backstory and even existing family, so they didn't want to deal with making sure that all animation and cutscenes work with custom characters. It's not impossible of course but it's still their first game.
