Facebook had a hold on me way longer than it should have because I don't know any other way to connect with people I know IRL locally, particularly for local events and arts & crafts fairs. I finally cut the ties but I genuinely don't know how to replace that pipeline for commissions and local events.

local sub-reddits are typically toxic as all get out and then you're just trading Facebook for Reddit. It truly is a gap... the problem is that for any service to step in requires they provide infrastructure / maintenance and that's expensive. Sometimes a local online newspaper will have a community events listing, but they don't typically allow discussion.
