It's been a long while, but super happy to announce that Fern 🪴 v1.8.0 is out now! So many fixes and improvements done over the last few months:

  • Several incorrect key bindings fixed in Vim, Helix, and Emacs presets
  • Spell Checking of hashtags and wikilink paths are now excluded to reduce noise in misspelled word results
  • Inline tag & link completion while editing. Typing # or [[ pops up an inline completion list, filtered against your vault's existing tags/notes. No more guessing whether a tag/note already exists or if you spelled a tag right!
  • Tag hints also shown in search modal now when typing a tag query
  • Frontmatter custom fields editor lets you define and manage YAML frontmatter fields (names, types & display order) from within the Fern UI
  • Spell Check gains "Change/Ignore All" buttons to allow for changing all instance of a given word with a suggestion OR ignoring all instances of a word in one go
  • Tags Theme generator gained a 'tag' field, allowing for setting of a custom tag style. All built-in themes updated with new field!
  • Mor UI Translations possible for help screen, settings editor and search modal are more fully translatable & Polish has full support (thanks to ZK's PR efforts! 🥰)
  • Fern now has an extensible plugin system powered by Lua via a Fern-Lua API. Plugins can respond to events, register custom commands and keybindings, open files, show picker dialogs, and even render custom code blocks right inside your notes. See the user docs for more info.
  • Plugin registry Fern-Terranium allows you to install, update, approve and remove vetted community plugins all without leaving the app!

If you use Fern or ya know someone who might like a distraction-free terminal note-taking app, please share/boost! Thank ya! blobhaj, hug, blahaj boost, request
