"This is Eric Garner. This is Sandra Bland. This is police covering for police."
On October 20, Koran Irvine, a Black father of two and Con Edison electrician, was killed by retired NYPD officer Victor Romero in an apparent road rage shooting. Irvine was on his way home to his family on the George Washington Bridge.
Romero was initially arrested for murder, but then had the charge downgraded to manslaughter. At his indictment on Tuesday, Romero's charges were brought back up to second-degree murder. Later that day, members of UWUA Local 1-2, Irvine's union, held a rally with members of his family demanding answers from the city.
Despite Romero's charges, he is currently walking free after posting a $1 million bail. Irvine's family is calling for him to be remanded and sent back to jail.
