The classic Addams family, unlike many families portrayed in contemporary comedy, had several qualities; such as: love for the arts, a loving couple, concern for the community, priority to children, as well as being hospitable and generous. Obviously! several families had these same qualities on television; however... what made them unique was the fact that they balanced these characteristics with their personality and dark/quirky tastes. Which created a perfect contrast! They weren't perfect (since they were a satire...) but they also weren't grotesque and cruel like modern family satires. |
