Being wrong is a dangerous game. You may just get corrected and that will be it. Or you might run into someone like me who will insult you and correct you. That is still rather safe. You might just get insulted and laughed at for being wrong, which is still tame. Or you can get doxxed and threatened, which to me is an overreaction. But these are still not the greatest dangers of being wrong. Because the worst possible scenario is one mistake becoming your entire legacy. Hitler did a lot of things, some of them even weren't that evil, but everyone remembers him for two things, two mistakes. The mustache and the juice thing. A man known as Pirate Software was once respected and liked (allegedly), and then he did an oopsie with the Stop Killing Games thing. Everyone remembers that, not the rest. Mussolini? Nobody knows what that guy was about, nobody remembers. But everyone remembers the way he said "spaghetti". I understand that two of these three examples were fascist dictators, but that is besides the point. I just wanted to use some well known examples. The point is, don't be like those guys, their legacy defined by one or two great mistakes. Make lots of mistakes, make so many that people can't really pin down the worst one, so you become an enigma of failure. Or, alternatively, don't be wrong. Ever. This message has been brought to you by the Oneida Community and the spirit of Plato once again given flesh (as punishment for coming up with the World of Forms (and other crimes)). Thank you, and have a good 86,400 seconds. |
