I hope getting a cold isn't the solution to my sleep issues but I'll take what I can get for now. Puffed up glands and a sore throat for 6.5 hours sleep is a deal of sorts.

Rightio - this is gonna be a long day at the home desk but I'm going to get everything done and I'm going to start out right with a big glass of lime water, and by tidying my desk and setting it all up 'just so'

Immediately knocks over a pint of water on the desk and all the electrical outlets.

ugh

I'm having a load of mulch delivered today and my enthusiasm level for moving it is currently at around 10%. Hopefully after breakfast and my morning stroll with Mr Woof I will be feeling a bit more motivated.

Call from the hospital.

Melbcat medical

To my understanding this has been caused by an infection that spread up to her kidney/s, one of them is enlarged or infected. I think they said the left. (I forget.) Pyelonephritis.

Thereโ€™s a dark spot on her lung but they donโ€™t know whether itโ€™s from inhaled vomit, if itโ€™s normal, or something else. So she needs an ultrasound and X-rays. Normally they do 5 ultrasounds in a day and sheโ€™s sitting on 6 so not sure if it will get done today.

Sheโ€™s still seeming flat but also giving the vets some attitude which might interfere with the procedures so Iโ€™ll bring in her Zylkene to see if that helps and Iโ€™ve told them she can handle a lot of gabapentin. Theyโ€™re bumping up her antinausea meds because she doesnโ€™t really want to eat.

I donโ€™t have a good feeling about this. :( Iโ€™m stressing about money but also about losing her.

I spent the morning weeding the front lawn and freeing the pop-up sprinklers from an overgrowth of grass that I think is impeding the effectiveness of the system. Because when I say 'lawn' I actually mean a patch of mostly dead grass with some green patches around the sprinklers. Now that we've had a bit of rain the dead patches are starting to get some green growth back again, but it's mostly yellow and crunchy.

I also pulled the worst of the weeds out of the nature strip, including making a start on the tiny weed patch between my driveway and the neighbour's. The ants did not like me doing that and I had a few little bites but I hate ants (after a couple of nasty kitchen swarm incidents) so it was worth it to piss them off. I've got some selective herbacide to kill off some of the nasty weeds like bindii, but once you get rid of the nasty weeds thre is not much more than bare dirt left at the moment. If I can clear the area and let some of the less offensive grasses move in instead it would be good.

My load of mulch has been delivered already, so this afternoon and tomorrow will be dedicated to hauling mulch into the back yard. It needs to be done by Friday, both because the weather is changing and because it's on my driveway and I need to go out. I managed the pile of sandy loam in that timeframe, so lighter mulch shouldn't be a problem. I guess worst case I spread it out a bit and drive over it ๐Ÿคฃ

We did an emergency run to the vet last night , misha was restive and panting.

she had heart failure. She spent the night in an oxygen tent, they said ahe was very responsive to the meds and draining the chest fluid buildup, and we brought her home this morning with some meds and a consult with a cardiologist

she was minking efram and had a good day before it happened, now she's tired and cranky and puking and I'm worried we just brought her home to die.

Finally finished the fence post holes. Didn't get a jack hammer, just chipped away at it. Prick of a job that needed to be done. Felt a kinship to the priest and Edmond in The Count of Monte Cristo tunnelling my way to success. Still need to set the posts, rails, pailings, letter box and doorbell. But that's tomorrow's job.

Melbcat update

Bad news, TW cancer

Theyโ€™re now saying Melbcat has an abdominal mass. That itโ€™s probably cancer and has likely spread into her lung and lymph nodes.

The three choices were biopsy and chemo, euthanasia, or try her on steroids to see if it responds.

Iโ€™ve chosen to have a biopsy just to get more information on whether thereโ€™s any point to trying to treat it, or get an idea of how soon we would need to euthanise her.

Iโ€™m visiting her this evening and will try to get a cuddle in. Iโ€™m not sure if Iโ€™ll get any more information tonight but will have to see.

That's really exciting. Electric kits have so many features like lessons and metronomes as well. Once he gets the hang of things he should dig into presets and more of the weird settings they can use

He's very excited ๐Ÿ˜† He and his dad are putting it together currently. It's not a very expensive top of the range kind of one (he would've liked something better) but I said you can try it and play around with the features and start to get an idea of what things you like or want as features, then get something else later down the track. It's a good starter kit and I wanted him to have that pride of having saved for something and got it.

I got about halfway through the mulch moving this afternoon, so I should be able to finish it off in a couple of hours tomorrow morning. That will finish of about 1/3 of the area to be mulched, but the rest is being done with bales of pea straw and sugarcane mulch so is a bit less effort. Digging out the front edge of the beds to remove the grass is the tougher work. I can spread that out over a bit more time though, and might have to do it in gaps between rain based on the current forecast.

It will be interesting to see how successful I am at keeping the edge neat. It's just grass straight against the edge of the garden bed, so I'll need to keep on top of the edging to cut back any grass runners etc. I have an edger with the solid blade, so it should be fairly easy to just run along the edge before mowing, I just need to make sure I don't get lazy and skip it.

Why?

myself , I pictured Rocky as being more delicate

but he is 180kg so maybe he's meant to be more solid , his legs have to support his weight

Seems kinda featureless to me, he's meant to have some radiator kinda device on his head and I imagine him a lot more like... bumpy and less clean lines
