Are they being bullied into doing surveillance? Every other week there's a slew of articles talking about how the government just asks nicely and the major Social media platforms (tech companies) just give over and hand the US government the keys to whatever they want. No subpoena. No real legal proceedings. Just "yeah, sure, here's all the data on user AbominableSnowman43. Hope it helps, FBI".

Let's go further: it should be illegal.

Discord et al should not be permitted to ask for proof of age. If you don't already need my credit card, you lack any legitimate reason to handle personal information. And even retailers don't need to see me.
