I don’t know as this is a leopards eating faces. I don’t believe he can vote, and there’s nothing there about him supporting it, just being unaware. Don’t get me wrong, lots of faces are delicious, but I don’t think this counts.

While they did manage to find something to check off the right forms as "is criminal", those were years ago, and had no reason to do anything about it now, and no reason to suspect he would reoffend, given the nature of the crimes.

So no, they're in the wrong.

It seems like he supported it; "they said they were going after the worst of them" seems like justification for supporting it. I don't support it, and I wouldn't say that. I do admit you have to assume some, but I'm not a jury and I'm not sentencing him to anything, so I'm not holding myself to the highest standard here.

I don’t know that this actually fits the community - this is about a foreign national, who had some old charges he hadn’t dealt with for whatever reason (one of which dates back to high school, when he was technically still a juvenile), and took ICE/CBP at their word, and evidently didn’t realize they are 100% lying. Lots of people don’t keep close tabs on what our shitshow of a country is up to at this exact moment.

This sounds a lot more like being in the wrong place at the wrong time while being somewhat oblivious/uninformed.

It was a long time ago when I filled it out, but I do remember that there were a lot of questions about whether you've ever been convicted of or even charged with a crime.

How is a Canadian registering a handgun?
This is his version of why he is detained.

Because Canada considers DUIs a felony-level offence, regardless of how the home jurisdiction considers it.
There are places in the states where it's a misdemeanor and has a lower bar for conviction than the Canadian provinces have, but to the border entry requirements, a DUI is a DUI.
That said, there are ways to become readmissible, but it's a huge pain in the ass.

A record of a DUI alone has for a long time been enough for Canadian border officials to bar Americans from entry. I don't see why Canadians shouldn't be held to that same standard.
