Ah, the only people involved in Tron Ares who knew what they were doing.

Tron Ares has no soul, it's wooden.

Not true, if someone could digitally remove the actors, the enviroment shots, the sets, the dialogue, all the cgi, and then any remaining video you can hear that the NIN track slaps.

idk.... with the EPs that came out before this it looked like NIN was heading somewhere... like they were growing. This soundtrack just sounds like they're doing the same old thing as they were 20 years ago. it's not BAD, but... it's kind of a shame. Like, they could have grown some more instead of just being "creatives" for a Disney product.

It feels like they watched the original Tron and made a soundtrack for that. I'll die on the hill that nothing is like that movie and Disney should not have abandoned its style.

Yeah, to be fair NIN did a great job of combining their sound with Daft Punk's soundtrack style and Wendy Carlos' soundtrack style. But it wasn't really innovative for NIN in general. (In my opinion, at least. If Trent and Atticus really wanted to do that, then good for them, it's their band lel.)

There was something relevant posted on !classicfilms@lemmy.world recently:

You're right, the original Tron style was great, but It was a real time and place thing and even before it was done the movie tech had moved on.

Well thats the technique, you could still keep the same art style and direction more or less even if the technique first used to make it is obsolete. The original Tron has a lot of color abberations in the circuitry rotoscoping. A more precise technique could probably make the neon pop more while looking more natural over the characters.

Edit: that picture is cool though. It does look like it took forever to edit that movie

That's a great point, there's a benefit to improving a technique and refining a style, rather than just moving on to the next technique because a more advanced technology's been developed.

And more than likely the art director wanted their vision or to leave their mark on Tron so to speak and it seems succesful even though I dont prefer it.
