Out of curiosity, where do people thank bus drivers?

So far I've seen it as a West Coast of North America thing. When I first visited Victoria, BC, I road a bus with a friend who told me about thanking bus drivers when you leave. Coming from Toronto, I found that weird and hilarious. Now I live in Seattle and it's become a way of life. I think I've seen it in Portland too.

Yeah, in Seattle is the only place I've seen it commonly, but when I lived in the D.C. area as a kid I saw it occasionally. I think it's nice.

I do it (california). Build some basic rapport with the bus drivers, sometimes if your marginally late and youre regularly at your stop, they might do things like wait an extra minute for you.

Not that I need it personally, as im typically very early, but have seen regulars get special treatment on my ride to work becuase of being, well regulars.

I've seen some people do it in the American South and Midwest. Denver, too but generally only outside the downtown area and only certain people (maybe from the other two regions)

In Finland it's pretty normal. We say hi when we get on and then thank the driver or just wave/nod when getting off

We do it in Montréal. If you get off by the front door, it's common to thank the driver while exiting. Less on very urban or busy routes, but it's quite common on suburban exo routes.
